My name is Danny Barajas and I am a senior at the University of Texas at Austin. Born and bred in San Antonio, TX, I must admit my Texas pride might come out from time to time. I've always had an interest in drawing and having grown up in the age of computers and animated cartoons I feel has affected my appreciation of the digital arts. So by the time I was in high school I had wanted to pursue animation as a career path.
I never really put much thought into where I would go for college. Both my parents and my brother went to UT and it's a highly accredited university. However, when I got accepted I realized they didn't have an animation program. I ended up coming in as a Computer Science major, but looking around the room at orientation I could spot only about 2 females. My advisers told me it was more programming based than art so I transferred into Advertising, which is ironically 70 percent female. I'm basically getting an art degree with job security.
During my academic career here at UT I have tried to stay connected with the Texas Student Media. I have been drawing comics for the Daily Texan for the past year and volunteered on a show called Sneak Peak featured on our campus TV station. Inside the Advertising department I have been working in a highly competitive, nationally recognized creative sequence that helps students build their portfolio. And to satisfy my need for animation I am currently enrolled in the Bridging Disciples Program in the Digital Art and Media sequence.
